Shawnee Grove is a timber bamboo and woodworking farm near Huntington, Texas. Once a thriving chicken operation, a devastating tornado forced the farm into vacancy for 25 years. The old chicken houses are now rising from the dust, given new life as tables and benches. I also build furniture from spalted oak. Spalted wood is a gripping portrayal of the tree’s desperate struggle against an assortment of attacks, though usually a fungus.  I’m growing over 20 varieties of bamboo, from giant timber to houseplant size.
